According to the Tunisian news agency TAP, the Chinese ambassador Bian Yuanhua and the Tunisian defence minister Rachid Sabbagh signed a 8MTD ($4.8M) Chinese grant to Tunisia. This agreement, which was signed on the 2nd of December, will be used for military procurements for the National Army to fight against terrorism and illegal activities.
During this meeting, the Tunisian minister highlighted that China and Tunisia should further enhance their cooperation, especially in the military field.
This grant follows a 37MDT grant that the Chinese government offered to the Tunisian government on the 29th of November. This first agreement aimed at financing development projects which would be identified later. A China-Tunisia chamber of commerce should be created soon. This grant is framed by a technical and economic cooperation agreement signed the same day by the Chinese ambassador and the Tunisian ministry of Foreign affairs, Othmène Jerandi.
